Terms and definitions

Suppressor (sound moderator, silencer)

In brief: A suppressor, or sound moderator (also called a silencer), is a device that attaches to the muzzle end of the barrel. It reduces the sound of the shot, muzzle flash and part of the recoil by letting the propellant gases expand and gradually cool inside a system of internal chambers before they exit into the air.

Muzzle brake

In brief: A muzzle brake is a muzzle device that vents the propellant gases to the sides and rearward, reducing recoil and muzzle rise. Unlike a suppressor, a muzzle brake does not dampen the sound: it manages recoil, and for a shooter standing to the side it is often even louder.

Integrated suppressor

In brief: An integrated suppressor slips over the barrel by 10-12 cm with its chamber instead of extending the system forward. By overlapping the barrel, the device gains more internal volume for sound suppression at a shorter overall length. Its takedown design lets you clean the chambers and sometimes adjust weight and dimensions.

ZERO technology

ZERO technology

In brief: ZERO (Zero Flow Resistance) is the proprietary NEMESIS gas-management system. Instead of simple suppression, it minimizes backpressure, dissipates gas energy across multiple stages and stabilizes the firearm's behavior after the shot. Backpressure

In brief: Backpressure is the excess propellant gas that a suppressor pushes back into the receiver. It fouls the mechanism, drives gas and soot toward the shooter and speeds up wear and heating of the firearm. Gas-management systems such as NEMESIS ZERO are aimed precisely at reducing backpressure.

Caliber and muzzle thread

In brief: A suppressor is chosen by two parameters: the barrel caliber (for example .223 Rem, 7.62×39, .308 Win) and the type of muzzle thread (for example 1/2×28, 5/8×24, M14×1). The device's caliber must match the cartridge or be larger, and the thread must exactly match the thread on your barrel.

Suppressor materials

In brief: Durable suppressors are made from titanium alloys (for example Ti-6Al-4V) and heat-resistant steels; external parts can be made of 7075-T6 aluminum. Titanium gives a low weight-to-strength ratio and resists corrosion and high temperatures, so it withstands the service life of intensive shooting.

Sound reduction (decibels)

In brief: A shot from a rifled firearm reaches about 160-165 dB. A device's effectiveness depends on its design: typical suppressors cut the peak level by 25-35 dB, while integrated NEMESIS ZERO systems with large chamber volume cut it by roughly 55-60 dB. Every -10 dB is perceived as twice as quiet.

Civilian use

In brief: All NEMESIS devices are created exclusively for civilian use on sporting firearms and hunting carbines. They help protect hearing, reduce recoil and improve shooting comfort.
