Where the gas goes after the shot
Both designs quiet the shot. The difference is what happens to the pressure next.
Gas blows back - into the shooter
- Blast chamber: gas from the barrel expands in the first chamber
- Baffles suppress the sound, but all the pressure stays in one channel
- Excess pressure travels back down the bore into the breech - back-pressure builds and hits the shooter
Gas goes forward - away from the shooter
- Reactive muzzle brake: it slows the shot and turns part of the gases back
- Primary blast chamber: gas expands around the barrel - peak pressure drops
- Primary radiator: dense fins pull heat out of the flow
- Secondary blast chamber: a second expansion finishes damping the impulse, where opposing flows cancel each other out
- Multi-channel ZERO system: outer labyrinth channels around the baffles (isolated from them) carry the gas to the turbine face - a radial outlet
- Classic baffle system: 11 baffles (chambers) with a central through-channel, isolated inside ZERO
This is the ZERO system. NODUS (in the ARCANE line, e.g. Omen) works on the same principle.

Good day, I'm sharing about the field tests ; POI at 100 changes by 0.2 MIL from zeroing with the muzzle brake It doesn't affect the velocity spread, nor the accuracy, vertical spread at 1200m is 7.5cm, it's a bit loud, as you mentioned

Quietest in Ukraine
ARCANE: 55-60 dB sound reduction per MIL-STD-1474 - independently tested by KajabaTSA. A muffled report with no metallic ring, predictable cycling, a clean breech after a string of shots.

Gas dynamics
ZERO - 5 stages / 8 channels in ARCANE. Gas after the shot does not flow back to the shooter, does not load the action with excess pressure, does not hit you in the face.

Titanium in heat-loaded sections, 7075-T6 aluminium in the housings, phosphated gun steel in the workhorse lines. Each alloy matched to its job.
